Prado is located in Kuurne, an adjoining town of the Flemisch textile town Kortrijk. In the Middle Ages, Kortrijk earned its place in the sun with the flourishing industry of linen and damask. The flax industry of Kortrijk expanded in the late Middle Ages to become the most important industry in South West Flanders. In the 17th Century, weaves from Kortrijk were very wanted goods to every European King House. It was therefore not a coincidence that Prado was located in Kortrijk-Kuurne at the beginning of previous century. Moreover, the name Prado (meadow) reminds of the meadows on which the precious linen from Kortrijk was put to dry on after being washed. It also refers to the Museo del Prado in Madrid, the most important Temple of Art in Spain. With fine craftmanschip and extreme creativity, Prado aims at honoring its name even today. |
